Press Release

The Port of Seattle has turned to the internet to dramatically reduce their bid solicitation paperwork.

Seattle, WA - August 3, 2000 – eBid Systems solution enables government agencies to post up-to-the-minute bid solicitations, contracts, specifications and plans directly on their web sites. Potential bidders can search, view, and download information and bid documents directly from the internet. Registration of bidders is handled entirely online, and registrants are notified simultaneously via email or FAX of any contract amendments, new business opportunities, bid results, and contract awards.

The Port of Seattle saw the internet as an opportunity to save up to $300,000 per year typically devoted to producing and distributing copies of bid documents. "Our marketplace survey shows a potential 70% acceptance of an online bidding process. With just a 70% acceptance rate, we expect our investment to pay for itself within a month," said Senior Contract Administrator, Paul Powell, Jr.

"We've gotten lots of positive feedback from vendors," said Senior Contract Administrator, Paul Powell, Jr.. "It's fast, accurate and reliable," said Gary Merlino Construction Vice President, Brian Kittleson, "it's the wave of the future."

During a recent month, the bid solicitation web pages had 1,400 visitors who downloaded nearly 10,000 documents. By downloading electronic versions of the documents, both the Port and their contractors realize significant savings in the cost of document reproduction, distribution costs related to mailing, express delivery, or picking up these documents in person, and time involved in communicating requests for information via telephone.
